Beginning junior year of high school, mentors meet with First Degree Scholars monthly to provide insight, direction, and support through in-person meetings, emails, and texts. Mentors arrange and attend meetings with high school counselors and First Degree Scholars to ensure that students are on track to graduate. Mentors also provide useful resources for ACT/SAT prep as well as applying for other scholarships and financial aid. During college years, mentors continue to provide insight, direction, and support to students while directing students to on-campus resources for student needs.

What Mentors Do

It’s a positive feeling when you’re part of a team whose purpose is to support a first generation student. When that student succeeds it’s an even better feeling! You feel like you’ve all won.
— Amy Butler, Mentor
